Character History: It goes without saying that Nicole’s mother was devastated when her long time Muggle boyfriend Sven turned up dead due to something as mundane as a car crash during her last trimester of pregnancy with their daughter. Her parents, who’d been estranged during the seven years that Miranda had been seeing the Swedish Muggle, came to stay with her while she waited for her daughter to be born. Shortly after Nicole arrived, Genève and Heath convinced their only daughter to return to England with them to raise Nicole.
With no one else to rely on, Miranda did as she was asked to do and soon set about the life of a single mother, taking on a Medi-Witch internship with a local Quidditch team to keep the players fit for flying. Eventually, Miranda was invited to be the full time Medi-Witch and she brought Nicole with her to many matches. Here, watching her mother create potions for the players is where Nicole’s finesse and interest in magical herbs and ingredients started. When she was old enough, Miranda taught Nicole what most herbs and things would do, even mundane ones that Muggles would use in homeopathic remedies that had no magic whatsoever in them.
Nicole was doted on by her taciturn English grandfather until the day he passed on but the spoiling was tempered by the strictest of ‘ladylike instruction’ by her old fashioned French grandmother, who insisted in speaking only in her mother language with both her daughter and granddaughter. The day that Nicole received her letter to Hogwarts was a shock and a delight to all in her family, especially Miranda who had been sent to Beauxbatons for the first few years of her magical education and transferred to Hogwarts shortly into her third year.
At Hogwarts, Nicole was shy and introverted like most First and Second Years but she made a few close friends as she grew up. Her worst subject (like most students) was the dull and sleepy subject History of Magic. Her best was Potions, even when she was judged quite harshly by the strict Severus Snape if she got something wrong in class. Transfiguration and Charms classes required her to apply herself a little more forcefully but she got moderately high results in those classes. Defense Against the Dark Arts left the blonde girl quite unimpressed with the constant shifting of teachers throughout all seven years, some good, some not so good.
As she approached the end of school, Nicole thought she would go a step further and apply to be a Healer at St. Mungos, at least for a little while, maybe return to Hogwarts as an intern under Madame Pomfrey in the Infirmary. She was accepted on a learner’s basis and apprenticed to a Healer in one of the emergency wards, often times sent out to correct a Splinching.
Between all of the reports of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named returning while she was finishing out her school years and the brief year where she had taken a sabbatical leave to France to be with her ageing mother to her grandmother’s old estate from July of 1996 through June of 1997, Nicole managed to keep herself from the grasp of Death Eaters out for an easy snatch by the luck that her mother had fallen ill just before the Ministry declined.
After settling her mother’s and grandmother's affairs, Nicole stayed in her grandmother’s estate for awhile, wondering what would happen if she couldn’t return to England soon. She needed have worried. When the next summer finally came, word was sent out by an owl from an old school friend of hers that the war was over, and Voldemort was gone, permanently. Nicole sold her grandmother’s estate to a wealthy French Muggle couple and returned home to take up a full Healer position that was offered to her at St. Mungos.
However, late in 2002, a missive came from her old school requesting a meeting with the Professors and Head of Hogwarts. She was offered a teaching position in Potions since Slughorn was re-retiring at the end of the school term, and while Nicole adored her job at St. Mungos, she accepted the job on the spot, delighted to share her knowledge with the younger generation.
